Hi, I Am Jennifer Hanes

I’m a registered dietitian with a passion for helping dietitians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals understand the powerful role nutrition can play in supporting mental well-being.

Just like you, I did not learn about nutritional psychiatry in school.

Our psychiatric training was mostly limited to eating disorders, and my preceptors often shrugged off questions about psychiatric medications, despite having a full psychiatric unit on site.

Frustrated but curious, I dove into the research myself.

Fueled by my ADHD-driven hyperfocus, I explored the science behind how food can support mood, anxiety, cognition, and overall mental health.

Over the years, I’ve worked in a variety of mental health settings, from acute inpatient units to outpatient clinics.

These experiences gave me firsthand insight into how nutrition truly interacts with mental health, and how clinicians can use that knowledge to make meaningful changes for their patients.

Now, I share what I’ve learned with other dietitians and healthcare professionals, bridging the gap between the research and practical, real-world application.

My goal is simple: to give you the tools and confidence to integrate nutrition into mental health care in ways that actually work.
